The Action Congress of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, has berated former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, over his comments on the state’s local governments poll.
The party alleged that George, in a recent interview, claimed that the PDP won in many of the local councils but was denied victory by the state Independent Electoral Commission.
In a statement on Monday by the ACN state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the party said George’s comment was an attempt to cover an allegation by a faction of the PDP that he misappropriated the funds given to the state chapter by its national body.
The party stated, “We are not surprised that instead of answering the damning allegations by Adeseye Ogunlewe that he misappropriated the money released by his party’s national headquarters to prosecute the local government poll, George is trying to advance an outlandish claim that PDP won many of the local councils in Lagos.
“That George continues desperately to paint LASIEC and ACN in bad light and has failed to prove claims in court show that he is blackmailing our party.”
The party advised said the PDP could only win Lagos on fair terms and not through threats and blackmail. He added that Lagosians were sophisticated people who knew who could serve their interests better.
“Lagosians can neither be commandeered nor blackmailed as the PDP and George think. But they can be persuaded to support any political party that best meets their aspirations. He should quit playing the childish game he is indulged in at present and face the reality that he cannot lead any party to electoral success in Lagos,” it stated.
