Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State Monday formally declared the first session of the state Fifth Assembly opened.
Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, also inaugurated the fourth Ekiti State Assembly, with a charge on members to coalesce efforts with his government to tackle the menaces of unemployment  and acute poverty in the land.

Also, the Ekiti lawmakers, shortly after the inauguration elected Hon Adewale Albert Omirin from Gboyin local government as the Speaker. Omirin emerged the Speaker through a motion moved by  Hon Boluwade Kehinde, an  Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) member representing Emure Ekiti Constituency  and  seconded by another ACN member representing Oye Constituency 1, Hon Ade Ajayi .

Oshiomhole’s  declaration was made through a letter to the Clerk of the State House of Assembly Monday in Benin City.
Hon. Uyigue Oghogho Igbe representing Oredo West constituency was confirmed as the Speaker of the fifth Edo State House of Assembly after he was unanimously elected by the other 23 members during its inaugural sitting.

His Oredo East counterpart, Hon. Patrick Osayimen, moved the motion for Igbe’s nomination and  was seconded by Hon. Johnson Oghuma representing Etsako Central constituency.
But a first timer in the Assembly, Hon. Festus Ebea (Esan South East), was also unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker.
The Assembly is made up of 19 members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and five members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
