Ibikunle Amosun

Two roads diverged, I took the one less taken… and that has made the difference in my life” – SIA

Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s rich family background can be traced to his grand parents. His paternal grand father’s name was Sanusi Agbabiaka – Amosun of omolasin compound in owu Abeokuta while his paternal grand mother was Asia Mobolaji (nee Ogunsholu) of Ita- Iyalode also in owu quarters Abeokuta.

The marital union between Ibikunle Amosun’s grand parents was blessed with the birth of Abdulasisi Oyedeni Alade Amosun who was born at Olowopapa village in Ewekoro Local government area of Ogun State.

Senator Ibikunle Amosun’s mother is Alhaja Rafatu Alake Mojisola Akinbola- a full blooded Egba woman. Her father the late Mr Akinbola hailed from Igbore quarters, whilst her mother Wulemotu Ogunsanmi hailed from Ile Jojo in Ita Gbanba area of Itoko also in Abeokuta.

The Akinbola’s lived and settled in the present Obafemi Owode Local Government area of Ogun State. Little wonder Senator Ibikunle Amosun’s Mother Alhaja Rafatu Mojisola Alake Amosun (nee Akinbola) was born in Ajura Village in Obafemi Owode local Govt. where her own parents had settled.

Senator Ibikunle Amosun has a unique lineage as he is firmly rooted in two major quarters of Abeokuta- the Owu where his father hails from and the Egba Alake his maternal homestead.

Senator Ibikunle Amosun is the Third child of Alhaji and Alhaja Lasisi Oyedeni Alade Sanusi Amosun. He was born on the 25th of January, 1958

While growing up, his parents taught him the values of service and responsibility and the blessings of his Islamic faith, lessons Ibikunle Amosun carries with him to this day. Ibikunle Amosun had his primary school education at African Church Primary school, in the city of Abeokuta from 1965 to 1970. He went on to African Church Grammar school, Abeokuta for his Ordinary and Advanced level studies between 1971 and 1977. Immediately after which he proceeded to Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytecnic) and graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in 1983.

Determined to tread the professional path, young Ibikunle Amosun studied hard and attained an Associate membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in 1990. He later became a fellow of the Institute (FCA) in 1996. Ibikunle Amosun is also an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (1998). His quest for academic excellence led Ibikunle Amosun to the University of Westminster in London (UK), where he acquired a Masters of Art (MA) in International Finance (2000). He started his career with Lanre Aremu & Co. (Chartered Accountants) as Audit Trainee in 1984 where he rose to Manager Cadre in 1987. He later went on to work with XtraEdge Consulting as a managing consultant. Presently, Ibikunle Amosun is the Principal partner of Ibikunle Amosun & Co. (Chartered Accountants) since 1990, an accounting firm of repute with head office in Lagos.

In the year 2003, Ibikunle Amosun Contested and won the senatorial seat of Ogun Central Senatorial district. He is married to Olufunso Amosun (nee Odesanya) and is blessed with 5 children.

  39. Lateef ERINFOLAMI says:

It is by luck I got to this page, Oluwasehun. I visited Nigeria, Ogun-State recently and my heart is very bitter.
My beloved primary school in Iju-Otta has been ovetaken by landowners; 80% of the school compound has been occupied by all sorts of negative activities (housing and minor trades). Neibouring village primary school compound has altogether been taken over by a so called chief (audaciously, built his house right in the school compound in front of the classrooms), this happens in the town of Onibuku (colonial name of ‘Holy-book’).
I continue to be hunted with all these images 3weeks after my return from Nigeria. Our schools has been turned to an ordinary joke, and thus goes the future of our State and the Nation. That is a great tragedy.

How could this happen in a developing country. where is the chance for us to develop if we mortgage the future of our children?

How could this happen in Ogun State, the State of our Great Father Obafemi Awolowo and illustrious Elder Wole Soyinka. And yet it has happened and its happening. This rot must be STOPED, this is a challenge your administration should not fail to takle.
EDUCATION from the primary and most importantly primary and secondary education must and should get a priority.

I pray solemlly, that God almighty will support you and empowered you with the right spirit and the good people to carry out the dunting task of making Ogun State once again the State to Envy in quality Education and Developments.
This need to happen, and happen fast. God Bless.
